Mexico City

St. Leo Original Pigments — a 7-city series · 100 colours · 4 finishes

Colour — with all its emotional, psychological, cultural, and aesthetic force — sits at the heart of Original Pigments. Developed over two years with the Copenhagen design studio All The Way To Paris, the collection began as hand-painted watercolour and gouache swatches. Its 100 colours are formulated from organic liquid pigments and the highest-grade titanium dioxide, in a water-based, solvent-free formula that pairs excellent coverage with low VOC — a healthier choice for the spaces we live in.

MEXICO CITY

Mexico City is a living cross-section of architectural history — Maya ruins, Gothic cathedrals, Baroque palaces, Neoclassical buildings, and Art Deco apartments, layered without compromise. Frida Kahlo's vivid blue Casa Azul, the geometric towers of Mathias Goeritz's Torres de Satélite, Luis Barragán's Modernist houses defined by burning colour, and shaded courtyards set into ochre-red earth — the Mexico City colour series mirrors the many personalities of this UNESCO World Heritage city.

12 Colours

Bellas Artes
Inspired by the prominent cultural centre and museum in Mexico City, Bellas Artes is a classic colour with the natural tones of Carrara marble. Shifting from off-white to grey, it combines a creamy body with subtle green tones for a refreshing take on neutral.

Alameda
The name and colour of Alameda derive from Diego Rivera's mural Dream of a Sunday Afternoon in the Alameda Central. This subtle lime-yellow brings lightness and softness into a room, a nuanced take on a neutral shade.

San Ángel
A slate blue that adds brightness and lightness to a room. Its pale, balanced profile comes from a considered blend of blue and red pigments, adjusted with a black tint for a pleasantly soothing tone.

Azulejos
Vivid and luminous, Azulejos references the blue-tiled façade of Mexico City's Casa de los Azulejos. Sitting between blue and purple, it casts warmth across any surface — its rich, strong pigmentation ensuring a deep blue atmosphere that stands the test of time.

Acuario
A refreshing teal, soft and balanced in appearance. A slightly grey undertone gives Acuario a well-rounded, distinctive profile, transitioning from green to aquamarine as the light falls across the surface.

Jardin
Mexico City's lush parks offer respite from its dense urbanity. Jardin draws on this idea of a cooling oasis, a mid-toned green body running from emerald to teal, developed with strong blue and yellow pigments and a tint of black for a vividly verdant look.

Barragán
Luis Barragán brought iconic bold form and colour to Mexico City's landscape. St. Leo draws on the architect's signature coloured walls for this vivid yellow — a bright, refreshing interior colour with a citrusy character that gleams almost neon in the light.

Torres
A deep orange with a rich, earthy profile. This intense, warm hue is grounded by black pigment — referencing the International Style Torres de Satélite sculptures in Mexico City, it brings boldness and confidence to a room.

Kiosco
A terracotta shade, evoking mellowness and a sense of intimacy. It references the colour of the Kiosco Morisco, a structure that combines old and new in its Neo-Mudéjar style — a transformative hue, shifting from bold red to an approachable, muted auburn.

La Tallera
La Tallera shares its tone with an architectural installation of the same name, composed of shades running from red to brown to yellow, while keeping its warmth. A bold choice, well suited to residential or commercial spaces seeking a profound atmosphere.

Mercado
A classic, warm grey, referencing the raw concrete form of Mexico City's public markets. Applied to an interior surface, Mercado acts as a tonal backdrop to the furniture and objects of daily life — a material purity and honesty that's timeless and versatile.

Anahuacalli
Rich and stone-toned, Anahuacalli captures the historic spirit of the Mexico City museum of the same name. This dark brown carries a warm, earthy appeal, bringing a mysterious aura to a room.

ST. LEO × ALL THE WAY TO PARIS

To develop the 100 colours of Original Pigments, St. Leo invited the Copenhagen design studio All The Way To Paris to collaborate. Led by Tanja Vibe and Petra Olsson Gendt, the process began with hand-painted watercolour and gouache swatches — intuitive, organic, partly left to chance. Over two years, through close dialogue with the St. Leo team, hundreds of hand-painted samples were gradually narrowed and refined into a single spectrum of 100 colours spanning seven cities.

All The Way To Paris is a Copenhagen-based design studio founded by Tanja Vibe and Petra Olsson Gendt, known across the Nordic design world for its work in branding, print, typography, and spatial design, and for its deep understanding of colour.
